SUMMARY:Bright Water Bog Walk
DESCRIPTION:This spectacular landscape in Shutesbury boasts more than 150 acres of wetlands and wild forest surrounding an historic millpond and a rare natural peat bog frequented by wildlife. Extensive boardwalks bring visitors through these unique habitats\, and roughly five miles of trails lead through meadows and woods\, up to a dramatic ledge overlook. \n\n\n\nThe land was a gift to Kestrel from the late Dr. Julian Janowitz. As a retired psychiatrist\, Julian cared about people. He also loved art and nature. Believing in the power of those things to make people’s lives brighter\, Julian spent 40 years creating a magical place to bring them all together on this land surrounding Ames Pond. His imprint on the land today includes Julian’s whimsical modern wood\, glass\, and stone sculptures that remain in place in the meadow and woods. He built the original trail system\, the first bog boardwalk\, and the stone stairway to the overlook\, all of which are being maintained with support from the Town of Shutesbury\, Mass Trails\, and private funders. \n\n\n\nThe trail is fully accessible. Wear comfortable shoes.  This event will take place rain or shine. \n\n\n\nvenue description: www.kestreltrust.org/welcome-to-bright-water-bog
