If you plan to drive while you are in Massachusetts, you may need to change your license to one issued by the state. Refer to UMass information: IPO – Using a Foreign License in Massachusetts. Call the Registry of Motor Vehicles at 1-800-858-3926 or visit their website at www.mass.gov/orgs/massachusetts-registry-of-motor-vehicles for more details. You can expect to take a written test and an eye examination. You MAY have to take a driving test. By special arrangements, you can take the written test in a language other than English. You may apply for your driver’s license at 116 Pleasant St. Easthampton or 280 Main St, Greenfield, MA.

PHARMACY
Non-prescription medicine is available at most supermarkets and drug stores.
Prescription medicines (those ordered by a doctor) are available at the pharmacies in drug stores (Stop & Shop, Big Y, CVS, and others) and at Health Services at UMass or Valley Medical on Hall Drive.
CONFUSING PHRASES
These phrases are all idioms or colloquial expressions and may
not mean what you first think they do!!!
Potluck – such as a “potluck supper”; everyone brings food to share with others
Finger Food – food you can hold with your fingers such as cookies, a sandwich, sushi,
potato chips
Tag Sales – private sales of new and used items by groups or individuals (the profits go
to the seller); prices are usually very low; tag sales are generally held on weekends and
advertised in local newspapers
Toll Free – local or long distance telephone numbers for which you do not have to pay;
all numbers beginning with 1-800 are toll free numbers; telephone numbers beginning
with 1-900 are not toll free
Coffee – can be either the drink or a visit in someone’s home during which coffee or tea
may be served
Rain Date – an alternate date scheduled for an event if rain makes it impossible to hold
the event on the original date
Rain or Shine – even if it rains, an event will take place
Change – money/hard change/coins
Common – in New England, a park or grassy area in the center of a town
RSVP – Please respond, tell the person who invited you if you will come or not.
